Window Covering Questions to Consider

1) What’s the most important thing to you about the window covering style you choose—fashion, privacy, insulation, light control or home security?

The style of the window covering plays a major role in the overall look and feel of your home. If your home is traditional, you may want to use a drapery with a fabric valance to bring in some color. If your home is more contemporary you might use a more streamlined blind or shade like Hunter Douglas Silhouette.

Privacy is one of the most important factors in choosing blinds and shades. Consider whether the window covering will let you create privacy at any time. Hunter Douglas blinds usually have a slat or louver that lets you adjust the angle to create privacy. Shades are usually either up or down—although the “top-down bottom-up” shade lets you drop the bottom half of the shade down to create privacy, while maintaining full visibility on the top half of the window. These options help provide some home security as well.

Insulation is a concern in our climate, especially in summer months when air conditioning costs are high. A shade that’s designed to insulate your glass can cut the heat loss or gain in your windows by as much as 70%.Shades and blinds control the amount of light that comes through a window. This controls glare and helps prevent fading of natural surfaces like hardwood flooring and upholstered furniture.

2) What type of warranties come with Hunter Douglas window treatments?

Esquire Interiors gives a lifetime warranty on the installation of all our window coverings. Hunter Douglas also offers lifetime warranty on all of their shades and blinds. This warranty covers the components and fabrics on the shades.

3) How will you clean the window coverings?

Most fabrics can either be dry cleaned or submerged in water for cleaning. We’re experts in this field and can clean your Hunter Douglas window coverings as part of our services.

4) What types of controls are on the blinds and shades?

This is an important question if you have child safety or ease-of-accessibility concerns. Hunter Douglas has many systems to choose from. Among them are cordless shades called LiteRise, with no cords to hang down. The Ultraglide system has a cord that retracts back into the shade and doesn’t hang on the ground. For hard-to-reach windows, consider PowerView—low-voltage motorized shades.

5) Who installs my draperies and blinds for me?

Esquire Interiors has been installing window coverings since 1960. We are second-generation certified master installers.
